Wilma Vannoy Birthing Center

The Perfect Place to Welcome Your Baby

The Wilma Vannoy Birthing Center has three rooms where you will be able to labor, deliver and recover. It is our goal for you to be able to stay in this room for your entire hospital stay; however, on rare occasions you may be asked to move to a room just outside the unit if we have had several deliveries. The birthing center is a locked unit to ensure the safety of your newborn.

The unit provides care during pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum, as well as, newborn care. The unit is equipped with central monitoring, which enables staff to always be able to monitor both you and your baby even if not present in your room.

Our nurses caring for you and your baby have almost a century of combined nursing experience. Nursing staff encourage you to keep them informed of any special requests for your labor and delivery. This helps ensure that you have the memorable experience that you planned, but at the same time realizing that labor is ever changing as circumstances change.

As you prepare for your new arrival, we encourage you to review our 30-week OB packet. In this packet, you will find useful information regarding birth certificates, breastfeeding, car seat safety, circumcision and the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program, among other resources.

Education

Ashe Memorial Hospital has been designated a Three-Star Breastfeeding-Friendly hospital through the NC Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation initiative, which was created to recognize those maternity centers that have taken the appropriate steps to promote, protect and support breastfeeding throughout their organization. At Ashe Memorial Hospital we are committed to educating expectant parents on the topics of childbirth and breastfeeding.

Our goal is to deliver quality care while providing a safe environment to meet the needs of all of our patients. As you prepare to welcome your new addition, we are here to help answer any questions you might have prior to the arrival of your newborn baby. We've compiled a list of educational resources, as well an educational video on childbirth to help alleviate any concerns you might have. These are intended to be used as a guide and are not a substitute for medical care. Each pregnancy is unique, and we encourage you to reach out to our dedicated team of physicians and nurses for more information.

Visiting Information

The hospital permits patients to receive visitors at any time. We ask that visitors respect the privacy of all patients, keep voices low and turn cell phones to vibrate. Nurses may ask visitors to leave for short periods of time to tend to patient needs.
