Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate

Health care providers are required by law to provide patients who don't have insurance or who are not using insurance a Good Faith Estimate of the bill for medical items and services. This estimate shows the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, including medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment and hospital fees, among others.

You may request a Good Faith Estimate in advance of an already scheduled medical service or item, or before scheduling an item or service. The estimate will be provided within three days of your request and within one business day of a previously scheduled service. For more information or to request a Good Faith Estimate, please contact Ashe Memorial Hospital's Financial Counseling department at 336-846-0725 and press Option 1.

It's important to remember that the Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. It also does not include services or treatment provided by physicians who may be independent practitioners in private practice, providers not employed by Ashe Memorial Hospital or those we contract with for certain services, including emergency medicine, anesthesia, radiology and laboratory services, among others. You could also be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For additional information regarding your right to a Good Faith Estimate or to dispute a bill, please click here.
