Mount Jefferson Family Medicine Welcomes Family Nurse Practitioner

JEFFERSON, N.C. — Mount Jefferson Family Medicine is pleased to announce that Amanda Gilligan, FNP-C, will be joining the team July 14.

Gilligan began her career as a labor and delivery nurse at Ashe Memorial Hospital before earning a Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program from Frontier University in 2025. She has spent the past year caring for walk-in patients at Mountain Family Care Center.

In her new role, Gilligan hopes to bring high-quality and compassionate care to Mount Jefferson Family Medicine while creating a positive healthcare experience for the Ashe County community. She will offer primary care services to patients of all ages. In addition to primary care, Mount Jefferson Family Medicine provides care for a variety of common and complex conditions, including cold and flu, respiratory conditions, gastrointestinal problems, genitourinary conditions, preventive care and chronic condition management, among others.

Mount Jefferson Family Medicine is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Gilligan is now accepting new patients. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call 336-846-7433.

“I am excited to transition into primary care because it allows me to build long-term relationships with patients and play a larger role in their overall health,” Gilligan said. “I am looking forward to serving our community in more continuous and comprehensive way.”

Gilligan grew up watching her mom come home from work proud of the difference that she made as a nurse and it inspired her to pursue a nursing career.

“Growing up with my mom planted the seed early on,” Gilligan said. “Over time, I realized that I wanted to be a part of a profession where I could care for others in the same meaningful way.”

Gilligan earned an associate degree in nursing from Surry Community College in 2017. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Western Governors University in 2022 before completing her Master of Science in Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program.

“My belief is that medical care is a team approach,” Gilligan said. “I believe in the patient and provider working together as a team to determine the best plan of care for the patient. I enjoy the relationships that I build with my patients, and I want my patients to feel comfortable and confident in the care that they are receiving.”

Outside of work, Gilligan enjoys spending time with her husband, John, and their two dogs, Stella and Ellie.

“Whether we are just going to the park for a walk, exploring new places, or just relaxing at home, spending time with my family helps me to recharge, especially after busy days in healthcare,” Gilligan said.
