Physician assistant Dan Caputo helps patients find positivity through treatment option exploration

Certified physician assistant Dan Caputo uses every appointment as an opportunity to positively impact his patients’ lives.

Through personal connection, insight and exploration, Dan is able to help his patients better understand their diagnosis and provide hope for the future.

“My favorite thing is talking to patients and connecting with them,” Dan says. “I don’t like to rush. I like to take my time with patients and help them explore treatment options and figure things out together. Exploring options that work best to achieve their desired goals. They could’ve come in with a story about their worst day and they end up leaving with a different outlook.”

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dan always had an interest in athletics having played football through high school. After spending nearly eight years as an athletic trainer, he decided to further his career, transitioning to sports medicine and orthopedic surgery. Dan joined the team at Ashe Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine in February 2025, bringing more than 15 years of experience in Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery.

Dan earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree in sports science and athletic training from Long Island University in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 2001. In 2007, he earned his bachelor’s degree in physician assistant studies from York College in Queens, N.Y.

Prior to joining the team at Ashe Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine, Dan worked as an orthopedic surgery physician assistant at New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, NY. He continues to work as a program trainer for Integrative Practice Solutions in Tampa, Fla. There, he teaches cutting edge Orthopedic Regenerative Medicine to new facilities around the country.

Orthopedics has allowed Dan the opportunity to treat a variety of specialty areas, including fractures, upper extremities, total joint replacement, spinal surgery and trauma, among others. He also enjoys doing community outreach and educating patients on general wellness, ways to prevent injury and the various treatment options that may be available should an injury arise.

“I’m all about exhausting all of the conservative options for patients before relying on operating to fix things,” Dan says. “It’s important to be able to connect with people, help them explore their treatment options and work together to figure out what suits them best."

In his spare time, Dan tries to take the time to do things with purpose and enjoy a slower pace with his girlfriend Christina and four children: Christopher, Tyler, Emma and Ava. He also enjoys Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, lifting weights and reading.
