AMH welcomes new Chief Nursing Officer
JEFFERSON, N.C. — Ashe Memorial Hospital is pleased to announce that Aaron Glenn, RN, MSN, has been named its new Chief Nursing Officer.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Glenn brings more than 20 years of nursing and leadership experience, including having spent 11 years serving as the Senior Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, a critical access hospital in Lexington, Va.
“Aaron is a seasoned nursing executive with a deep commitment to patient-centered care, rural health, and developing strong nursing teams,” Ashe Memorial Hospital CEO Brian Yates said. “We are excited to welcome Aaron to our team and look forward to his leadership.”
Glenn earned a Bachelor of Arts in social work and psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 1995. He went on to earn an Associate of Science in nursing from Colorado Mountain College in 2002 and a Master of Science in nursing administration from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y. in 2013.
He began his career working with troubled youth before transitioning to Emergency Medical Services and then nursing. Glenn enjoyed working with the patients and while talking with fellow healthcare workers in the hospital near where he worked, he was particularly drawn to the nurses who appeared the happiest in their career path. They fully supported his desire to further his education.
“Nursing goes beyond just taking care of the patient,” Glenn said. “We can make an impact in someone’s outcome. We may not be able to change the diagnosis, but we can positively impact their experience. That’s my greatest take away.”
In his new role, Glenn is focused on making sure the nursing team has the tools and support it needs to provide the best possible care for the community.
“When you work in a small community, the people that you’re taking care of are the individuals that you cross paths with on a daily basis,” Glenn said. “We’re changing lives, and we want our nurses and care givers to be the best at their jobs that they can possibly be. It’s easy to recognize that the impact of the care inside the hospital on the community is enormous.”
In his spare time, Glenn enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, who also is a nurse, and four children, ages 15-19, and playing men’s lacrosse. He’s also looking forward to being able to return to the area where he spent countless time vacationing with his family.
