 | Experience: | 3 or more years of previous experience in all aspects of geriatric care nursing preferred. |
 | Physical Requirements: | Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds. Visual and hearing ability for patient care activities. General indoor conditions. Light to moderate noise. Good verbal and written communication skills necessary for job requirements. Weekend and evening work required.
Occupational Hazards: Potential for exposure to infectious patients or materials is negligible. Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including blood, urine, body fluids and cleaning solutions). Potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp objects. Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used. |
 | License Required: | Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in State of NC, current CPR Certification in gerontological nursing preferred, BCLS (CPR) Certification within 3 months of hire. |

Essential Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the clinical aspect of daily clinical practice by evaluating nursing activities, ensuring efficient care and supporting nursing staff. Reports any results/problems to Director of Nursing.
2. Observes nursing care and rounds to all residents daily to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment administered in accordance with physician's instructions. Ensure alarms are in use per care plan.
3. Inspects rooms and halls for cleanliness and comfort.
4. Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of residents and their families.
5. Is able to demonstrate competency in caring for residents throughout the life cycle, to include adult, and geriatric aged residents.
6. Attends change of shift report and follows up on any potential problems.
7. Contacts physician for any acute episodes that needs intervention. Writes orders and documents changes in condition into the medical record.
8. Round and assist physician with duties.
9. Assist nurses to start IV's.
10. Contact pharmacy as needed to follow up on new orders, medication filling and pharmacy recommendation.
11. Complete pharmacy recommendations monthly in a timely manner.
12. Assist C.N.A.'s with transfers, ADL's and feeding/tray set up in dining room for each meal.
13. Assist the Unit Secretary as needed to maintain resident charts, answer telephone/call bell system and document vital signs and weights into resident record. Assist inputting orders into computer system.
14. Monitors labs daily. Note any orders.
15. Administer immunizations per physician orders.
16. Complete admissions and discharges.
17. Completes AZMs test per policy.
18. Assists nurse to change out oxygen supplies and clean oxygen filters weekly.
19. On weekly basis attend and participate in Care Plan/Medicare Meeting if scheduled to work.
20. Oversee Restorative or Wound Care on daily basis.
21. As Restorative Nurse will maintain a current master list of residents. Assess C.N.A. documentation and the resident status, and then enter a nursing note at least quarterly on resident progress or failure. Keep MDS/CP Coordinator informed of any changes in restorative.
22. As Wound Nurse will monitor and record changes in wounds on a weekly basis. Will review any new skin breakdown every week and report to Director of Nursing.
23. Assist with other projects or duties as assigned by Director of Nursing.
24. Maintains confidentiality.
25. Communicates effectively with others.
