 | Education: | Graduate of an approved Nursing Program |
 | Experience: | 6 months of nursing experience preferred, but will except new graduates. |
 | Physical Requirements: | Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
Visual and hearing ability for patient care activities
General indoor conditions, exposure to below 32 degrees and above 80 degree temperatures.
Noise: Light to moderate.
Good verbal and written communication skills necessary for job requirements.
Critical thinking skills for patient care.
Weekend and evening work required. |

Duties of the Job:
1. Demonstrates basic knowledge of medications, correct administration based on age of the patient and the patient's clinical condition.
2. Performs basic patient care considering needs specific to the patient's age.
3. Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment and reassessments on pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
4. Ability to update a plan of care as indicated by the patient's response to treatment and evaluate overall plan for effectiveness.
5. Formulates a teaching plan upon admission based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.
6. Ability to perform basic treatments and procedures to include pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.
7. Communicates appropriately and clearly to Nurse Manager, coworkers, physicians, patients/families, and other hospital departments.
8. Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Communicates with Social Services/Discharge Planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
9. Reviews physician's orders and results of diagnostic tests.
10. Ability to assist physicians with procedures and treatments requiring basic technical and manual skills.
11. Ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful and emergency situations.
12. Changes IV sites and tubing as indicated in hospital policy.
13. Treats patient and their families with respect and dignity.
14. Checks medication orders and MAR transcripts for accuracy.
15. Involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
16. Meets the psychosocial, physician and general aspects of patient care.
17. Universal precaution and/or sterile techniques are carried out during treatments and special procedures.
18. Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
19. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
20. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
21. Assesses, observes, records significant conditions and reactions, notifies charge nurse or physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
22. Assess staff's skill level and need for supervision.
23. Assesses patient's needs by making rounds.
24. Participates in one Quality Improvement Activity and serves on one committee annually or as requested.
25. Plans and organizes nursing care according to priorities.
26. Prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care based on assessment of patients and staff.
27. Evaluates patient's care given by staff. Identifies and implements changes accordingly.
28. Uses resource material as needed.
29. Interprets and implements written and verbal directions correctly.
30. Adheres to safety practice.
31. Follows up on problems in a timely manner.
32. Evaluates results of nursing interventions and documents in the medical records using the nursing module, documents in nursing notes once per shift.
33. Counsels staff as needed.
34. Ability to enter and verify orders in the computer system. |
