Safety Department

The goal of Ashe Memorial Hospital is to provide a Culture of Safety by doing all that is reasonable to prevent injury to patients, residents, volunteers, and employees, as well as, damage to property. The Safety Program is directed by an organizational Safety Committee consisting of all department managers and key management staff. The Patient/Resident Safety Team, under the supervision of the Safety Committee, directs the Patient/Resident Safety Program.

The Safety Officer, Leisa Powell, functions under the direction of the Safety Committee and is charged with the coordination and supervision of the Safety Programs. There are two major functions of the Safety Department. The first is concerned with the Environment of Care. This management program focuses on providing a functional and safe environment for all persons while at Ashe Memorial. This involves the implementation of seven individual safety plans directing the management of Safety, Security, Emergency Preparedness, Medical Equipment, Life Safety and Fire, Hazardous Communications, and Utilities.

The second major function is directed by the Safety Officer and the multidisciplinary membership of the Patient/Resident Safety Team. The goal of this program is providing safe patient and resident care within a safe environment. The Team not only monitors the ongoing patient safety, but also examines potential issues proactively in order to implement safe processes in areas where error could possibly cause injury. The Patient/Resident Safety Program encourages patients and family members to become active members of the healthcare team in order to provide the safest and most pleasant experience while at Ashe Memorial Hospital.
