The Wilma Vannoy Birthing Center is designed to provide quality care that focuses on the family dynamics before, during and after labor. There are 3 LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum) suites each complete with TV, VCR, pull-out bed for dad, rocking chair, wood flooring, private bathroom and shower, an alarm clock/CD player. This environment provides a more “home-like” atmosphere for the comfort of our patients. These suites also allow the mother to stay in the same room during each stage of the birthing process. Although there is an “at home” feeling, all the necessary equipment and technology to ensure a smooth and healthy delivery is located in each room.
Continuous mother and baby care is provided by Registered Nurses that are trained and dedicated to meeting the individual needs of our mothers and newborns. An up-to-date fetal monitoring system allows continuous viewing at the nurses station and physicians private computers. This includes telemetry monitoring of the mother’s contractions and the infant’s heart rate while she is ambulatory during early labor.
Our nurses are trained in childbirth education, including alternate positioning, relaxation techniques, and comfort measures for a more natural birthing experience. Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists are on call 24 hours a day to provide epidurals when needed. Childbirth, breastfeeding, and childcare classes are offered on a regular basis. Sibling classes are also offered to teach young children the basics of what the new infant can and cannot do and proper handling.
“Rooming In” allows the infant to remain with the mother at all times and is encouraged, however our nursery is available as an option and is always staffed with trained OB nurses to care for your baby.
Following is a list of other services provided following your delivery:
· Hearing screening on all newborns
· FREE steak dinner celebration for the new mom and dad before discharge
· Baby’s first pictures taken before discharge
· FREE car seat safety inspection
· FREE lactation consult during and after your hospital stay provided by a certified lactation consultant
· 24 hour lactation hotline answered by lactation consultants and/or educators to help with any problems that may arise after discharge
· 24 hour telephone consultations with a nurse
