Monitored Bed Unit

The “MBU” (Monitor Bed Unit) at Ashe memorial Hospital is designed to provide specialized care for patients and their families, meeting all their nursing needs throughout the life span, from infants to geriatrics. It is located on 3rd floor and functions independently from the Med Surg unit. Staffing includes 4 full-time RNs and 4 full-time MBU CNAs and others who work as needed. All staff have special certifications in working with critically ill patients.
Patients who are admitted to the MBU have an acute or chronic illness whose disease state has progressed beyond the point of being manageable on the Med-Surg unit. It is primarily adults, but may be of any age group. Types of patients include cardiac patients, medical patients that require close monitoring for various reasons and surgery patients needing close follow-up. The MBU nurse also monitors and documents cardiac patterns for as many as 8 patients on the Med-Surg unit.
Primary nursing is the system of care delivered in the MBU. It is an organized and systematic process which is also multidisciplinary. Staff work closely with other departments including respiratory therapy, dietary services, physical therapy, social services for discharge planning, cardiac rehabilitation, pastoral care, and occasionally occupational therapy.
In combining our latest state-of-the-art equipment and our highly skilled nursing staff, we at Ashe Memorial feel the MBU is a place to receive excellent health care for you and your family. We are striving continuously to provide the most current and up-to-date care available to you, our patients.
