Sincere, honest, dedicated, compassionate, skilled and hard working that is how to describe the medical/surgical nursing staff of Ashe Memorial Hospital. The Medical Surgical Department at Ashe Memorial Hospital consists of 18 private rooms with an average daily census of 15 patients. Each patient is unique and requires different kinds of care. A unique plan of care is implemented for each patient. The most common diagnoses seen on med/surg is congestive heart failure, chest pain rule out mi, abdominal pain, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and surgical cases. The department services pediatrics through geriatrics. The medical/surgical department is located on the second floor of the hospital. The Medical Surgical department nursing staff is made of up registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants. The med/surg department consists of three nurses, one to two certified aides, and one ward secretary for day shift and two or three nurses, one aide and one ward secretary on night shift. In addition to required certifications some of the medical surgical nursing staff are certified in advanced life support, neonatal advanced life support, and pediatric advanced life support. The medical surgical nursing staff correlates with the physicians, surgical care services, rehabilitation services and the registered dietitian to formulate the maximum care to benefit the patient. The med/surg nursing staff strives to provide excellent and compassionate care to patients and their families.
