Information Technology

The Information Technology (IT) Department at Ashe Memorial Hospital ensures that health care data is delivered to staff and physicians in a timely fashion to support prompt and correct treatment of patients. The IT Department makes sure that the equipment is working correctly, and that the information is flowing to the correct people. The staff is responsible for the daily upkeep of around 400 pieces of network equipment, including computers, servers, printers, PDA's, mobile carts and more. From daily maintenance and support, to repairs and upgrades it is all performed in-house by the IT Department Staff. The IT Staff supports the Meditech system that is utilized by all hospital departments, and the Ultracare system that is used by Segraves Care Center. There are also many ancillary products that are supported, such as Kronos for payroll and Policy Manager for policies and procedures. The staff provides a first line of support for all employees, and will work with hardware and software vendors on larger issues. Also, with technology changing seemingly daily, a large portion of the It Department's time is looking at ways that new technology can benefit both patients and staff. For example, Ashe Memorial Hospital is now one of the few hospitals that perform bedside scanning of medications before they are administered. This helps to ensure that the correct patient is getting the correct medication at the correct time. The IT Department members are William Baldwin and Mitch Calhoun.
