Human Resources

Human Resources is all about people: finding and recruiting them; hiring them; training and developing them; paying them; creating an environment that's safe, healthy and productive for them; communicating with them; and doing whatever is reasonably possible to find that delicate balance between what best serves the basic needs of employees and what best serves the market-driven needs of the hospital. Human Resources is committed to ensuring an enriched, respectful and diverse work environment.

In the past, these Human Resources has been associated with performing the administrative function of an organization, such as handling employee benefits questions or recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new personnel in accordance with policies and requirements that have been established in the organization.

Today's Human Resources juggles these tasks and, increasingly, participate in the organization's strategic planning. They have moved from behind-the-scenes staff work to leading the organization in suggesting and changing policies.

Human Resources goal is to focus on the practices and policies that directly affect the welfare and morale of our employees. The market today for employees with skills and knowledge that is required in healthcare is becoming more and more competitive.

Chief Human Resource Officer

The most common areas that fall under Human Resources include the following:

Staffing: Strategically determining, recruiting, and hiring the human resources.

Basic workplace policies: Orienting staff on policies and procedures such as schedules, safety, workplace issues, etc.

Compensation and benefits: Establishing effective and attractive wages and perks. Human Resources conducts surveys to see how their rates compare with others and to see that the organization's pay scale complies with changing laws and regulations. In addition, Human Resources often oversees the organization's performance evaluation system, and reward systems such as pay-for-performance plans.

Training and developing employees: Ensuring staff grows in knowledge and experience to help the hospital grow and expand.

Regulatory issues: Those things the hospital must do to stay in compliance with the number of federal, state and local regulations in regard to employment.

Dispute resolution: This has become increasingly important as parties to a dispute attempt to avoid costly litigation, strikes or other disruptions. Dispute resolution also has become more complex, involving employees and management.

Recruitment: Human Resources oversees the hiring and separation of employees.

Ashe Memorial Hospital continues to have a Recruitment and Retention Team to suggest, review and monitor our recruitment and retention programs. This team is committed to further developing a healthy work environment and maintain our valuable employees while keeping our ICARE mission in mind.
