About Your Hospital
Ashe Memorial Hospital is a not-for-profit hospital located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the western part of North Carolina. Ashe Memorial is a rural hospital that has a remarkably sophisticated level of care for a county population of 25,499. The hospital was established in 1941 and is licensed for 76 acute care beds and 60 Long-Term Care Beds. In 2008 Ashe Memorial became a Critical Access Hospital. Critical Access Hospitals are rural hospitals that receive cost-based reimbursement.
The Medical Staff consists of: Two General Surgeons, Seven Family Practitioners, One General Practitioner, One Hospitalist, One Radiologist and Two Emergency Medicine Physicians.
Ashe Memorial is a full-service hospital that offers Laparoscopic, General, and Orthopedic Surgery, Complete Eye Care including Cataract Treatment, Diagnostic Imaging,, Cardiopulmonary Therapy and Testing, Nutritional Counseling, Lifeline Emergency Response Program, Endoscopy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Physical Therapy, Obstetrics, Mountain Hearts Center for Prevention and Wellness, Mammography, a 24-hour Emergency Room, an after-hours medical clinic and much more.
The hospital has completed renovations of the following areas: Monitored Bed Unit, which includes the latest technology, nursing station on the second floor of the hospital and the Wilma Vannoy Birthing Center. Ashe Memorial Hospital has a 60-bed Long Term Skilled Nursing home attached to the hospital facility, which was added in 1991. The hospital also has a commitment to the wellness of the community, which we have addressed with the expansion of an in-depth Wellness and Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, “Mountain Hearts,” which includes the opening of a therapeutic swimming pool.
The continuation of Ashe Memorial as a Primary Healthcare hospital for 68 years is a reflection of dedication and hard work by our past and present Medical Staff, Employees, and everyone involved with the hospital.
