AMH Mountain Hearts
Mountain Hearts Center for Prevention and Wellness continues to be the most comprehensive wellness center in the High Country. Our extensive line of cardiovascular and weight training equipment, the multi-purpose aerobics/yoga floor, and the indoor aquatics center are available to the Ashe County community and their guests. Mountain Hearts’ focus goes beyond physical fitness. We emphasize the health benefits of lifestyle, which includes exercise, proper diet, and abstinence from tobacco products. Many of the risk factors for all chronic diseases are identical. Lack of exercise is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancer, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Tobacco usage increase the risk for cardiovascular disease, cancer, and lung disease (i.e. emphysema, bronchitis, asthma), and osteoporosis. Through regular exercise, a healthy diet, and tobacco abstinence, many of the chronic diseases can be prevented, quality of life can be enhanced, and fitness and physical appearance results can also be achieved.

Mountain Hearts is staff by American College of Sports Medicine certified exercise professionals and a Registered Nurse. Clinical oversight is provided by an area physician serving as the Medical Director. Mountain Hearts Center for Prevention and Wellness is one example of Ashe Memorial Hospital’s commitment to preventing chronic disease and the emphasis that it places on the importance of a healthy, vibrant community.
